Did You Know That Sweat Can Spread Hepatitis?
Thursday, December 30th, 2010This information is very important for certain individuals to digest. And sometimes this is also an extremely unfortunate circumstance for someone to find him or her self in. Knowing that you can spread or catch hepatitis through sweat can cause a need for a complete alteration of someone’s lifestyle. Hepatitis B has been found to be successfully transmitted into the bloodstream from one human being to another through the open, sweaty pores in the skin. This is because when someone sweats his or her pores are open not only to emit, but also to take in the materials around them. Often, this is air – the sweat cools and maintains the core body temperature so that someone does not overheat. Your open pores, side-by-side with the sweaty, open-pored body of another individual, make you more susceptible to possibly contracting this unfortunate disease.
The people whose bodies have contracted this kind of transmission through sweat: those who were first identified as an unintended “control group” were wrestlers. This lead scientists and researchers to study the phenomenon further – and in doing so quickly discovered their suspicions were in fact, true. Therefore, if someone drips some sweat on you or forgets to wipe down the exercise equipment at the gym it is still less likely to get you sick. This is because Hepatitis B is most likely contracted through contact sports. Open pores, side-by-side with the sweaty, open-pored body of another sweaty individual, is the most likely way to contract Hepatitis B.
Bleeding wounds, of course, have been narrowed down to the possible transmission of other sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV, or what will eventually become full-blown AIDS. The scare for transmission of AIDS with bleeding is higher than the scare of contracting other information. However, according to Reuter’s Health in New York, there were studies on many people who contracted HBV. Deoxyribonucleic Acid, or DNA test results have proven that eight out of the nine tested individuals tested positive for signs of HBV in the blood as well as sweat. Therefore, patients whose blood tested positive for HBV was also transmitted through sweat of another person, possibly elusively so.
For example: you can have sex with someone and use a condom, but excessive sweat will keep you much less than 99.9 percent protected from the contraction of an STD. This article is designed to be an informative explanation focused specifically toward athletes. Nonetheless, I believe that this tangent of a paragraph is certainly worth mentioning. The safe sex issue we are facing today seems now to be much more complicated than simply abiding by the standard use of condoms and / or diaphragms. The “99.9 percent protection” of such products as promised on their labels, however, may (much sooner than later) need to be changed.
Having a Hard Time With the EFT Set Up Phrase?
Wednesday, December 29th, 2010If you’ve been tapping for any length of time you’re very familiar with the words we say during the set up statement as the karate chop point.
First we state the issue challenge condition or, trauma were tapping on.
Followed by “and I deeply and completely love and accept myself” or a variation on this phrase.
When I’m working with clients at some point or another we come up against a roadblock. And that is the part of the person that does not deeply love and except themselves with the challenge, condition or issue.
Having worked with many many clients I can sense when this road block is preventing my client from moving forward.
I actually ask my clients say, “I’d like you to say: ‘I deeply and completely love and accept myself with…’ (and I them state the problem, challenge issue or condition).”
I have them rate the statement on a scale of 0 to 10. Zero means there’s no truth to that statement in all. 10 signifies it feels 100% true. I ask them to give me a number on that scale.
Many times the number is not high but a low number such as the 2, 3 or 4.
And that tells me that a big part of them does not love and accept themselves because they have this issue condition. This can actually thwart our results with EFT. Why? Because any long-lasting, sustaining change requires the foundation of love and acceptance.
So how do we get around this roadblock?
Do we keep on tapping using our willpower to force ourselves to love and accept ourselves despite our problems?
I don’t encourage you to use willpower to force yourself to love and accept yourself. Nor deny that there’s a part of you that may be angry or frustrated with yourself for having this problem or shaming or blaming you for having the challenge.
But rather to gently put your arm around that part and admit it out loud during EFT. One main reasons I have found that people do not want to love and accept themselves is because they are afraid they will be saddled with a problem forever. They are afraid they are surrendering to the problem and therefore will have it forever.
Here are some tapping scripts to get around this inner resistance you might be feeling:
Even though, a big part of me does not except myself because I’ve had this problem for so long… I’m tapping on this now
Reminder phrase: don’t accept myself.
I’ve resisted to accept myself because that means accepting the problem and and then I’ll never get rid of this issue or condition… I’m good at top of this.
Reminder phrase: afraid I’m accepting the problem/will have it forever.
Remember, you still have to get to uncover and tap on the core issues (the major limiting beliefs) that hold us back to using this tapping script here will assist you.
Know that loving and accepting yourself is a necessary ingredient to assist you in resolving your challenges and problems while easing the pressure you might be feeling to ‘fix yourself.’
Aciphex and hiatal hernia
Wednesday, December 29th, 2010Hernia is a medical condition that is characterized by relaxation of a muscle that holds an internal organ in a particular location leading to movement of that organ that ultimately causes different health problems as well as painful symptoms. When speaking of hiatal hernia it is the stomach that moves from the abdominal cavity upwards into the chest.
People suffering from constant acid reflux problem are always looking for a solution that could deliver an effective relief for this unpleasant condition. Of course, the alternative acid reflux solutions that will be discussed further do not provide a 100% success guarantee, however if taking the right direction in changing your lifestyle the problem can be addressed effectively and without additional treatments.
Hiatal hernia is often associated with acid reflux disease or GERD being indicated as one of the reasons for this health condition. GERD is known to be mainly a muscular disorder linked to improper functioning of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). This muscle connects the stomach with the esophagus and prevents the food from getting up back after it has entered the stomach. When the sphincter is too weak or functions abnormally the contents of the stomach reflux into the esophagus and damage its inner lining due to the high acidity of the stomach liquids.
What does this have to do with hiatal hernia? Recent studies have shown that the misplacement of the stomach has a direct impact on the functioning of LES. Normally, LES is enforced by the diaphragm, which lies within the same plane and helps keep the muscle closed tight. However, when hiatal hernia is present the LES gets misplaced too and the diaphragm is no longer able to support it. Thus the sphincter becomes less effective and stomach contents reflux more often into the esophagus causing such unpleasant symptoms as heartburn.
There are different conditions that may cause hiatal hernia. Some of the most common factors contributing to its development include pregnancy, uncomfortable clothing, abrupt physical stress, serious abdominal injury, constipation, vomiting. This may be also caused by birth and development defects or weakening of the inner tissue holding the organs in their places.
Overcoming hiatal hernia and GERD rarely involves surgery. First of all in order to reduce the effects of acidity your doctor may prescribe you with Aciphex. Aciphex works by regulating the production of acid within the stomach and lowering its impact on the esophagus during reflux. Still, it’s a measure to eliminate the consequence. So when it comes to treating the actual cause doctors usually recommend the following measures:
- Take smaller meals more frequently.
- Do not consume foods and beverages that may provoke acid reflux.
- Avoid eating in less than 3 hours before bedtime.
- Try to avoid lifting heavy weights.
- Get rid of excessive weight.
- Stop smoking.
- Keep the head of your bed 4-8 inches higher then the rest of your body.
- Don’t wrap your waist into tight clothes.
- Avoid lowering your upper parts too much after eating.
- Avoid constipation and consult with your physician if you have such problems.
These measures are very effective in preventing and stopping the development of hiatal hernia, and the earlier you take them, the easier it will be for you to minimize the impact of this health condition.
Miscarriage: How to Steer Clear of Spontaneous Abortion
Wednesday, December 29th, 2010MISCARRIAGE IS SPONTANEOUS ABORTION
Miscarriage connotes abortion that is spontaneous. Abortion is the unintended pregnancy termination. Miscarriage, therefore, happens prior to the fetus becoming capable of carrying on independent life.
ASSESSING ABORTION
Forced termination of pregnancy is abortion. It may result in fetus death. Or, abortion can be accompanied by the death of the fetus.
CAUSES OF MISCARRIAGE
Spontaneous abortion or miscarriage can happen due to two main reasons. Spontaneous abortion can occur if the mothers possess such disorders or suffer such injuries that may hinder smooth pregnancies. Spontaneous abortion can also happen if the fetus fails to develop as it should be within the womb. Repeated instances of spontaneous abortion can hinder a woman from carrying forward pregnancies to terms in future.
TOXEMIA
Toxemia can also cause death of both the baby and the mother. This serious condition usually happens in some late pregnancy cases. Toxemia can degenerate into coma. There can be seizures. It may lead to even death. The symptoms are presence of protein in urine, excessive swelling (edema) leading to and rapid weight gain even up to 13 kg, and high blood pressure. If severe toxemia happens, then the doctors generally opt for immediate deliveries to save the child and the mother. However, toxemia gets cured automatically with birth.
FIFTH DISEASE
Fifth disease caused by parvovirus can also lead to miscarriages. Though it generally affects children, it can happen in adults too. Its effects are arthritis and joint pains. The most vulnerable adults are people suffering from sickle cell anemia. There can also be short-time failure of bone marrow.
MISCARRIAGE VERSUS INDUCED ABORTION
There is a vast difference between the connotations of the two terms: miscarriage (spontaneous abortion) and induced abortion. While the former happens naturally, the latter is carried out artificially. Induced abortions are brought on deliberately. In the clinics, induced abortions are generally done with due consent of the patient or her kin.
WHEN INDUCED ABORTION BECOMES NECESSARY
It becomes absolutely necessary and often has to be carried out emergently to save the life of the expectant mother. Often an induced abortion is carried out because the pregnancy is unwanted. Hence, induced abortion refers to that undesirable situation in the life of an expectant mother when the pregnancy has to be ended intentionally simply because the pregnancy may be life threatening to the mother or may be posing serious danger to the fetus or may be extremely precarious to both the mother and the fetus.
DRUG-INDUCED ABORTION & SURGICAL ABORTIONS
Such an abortion is also known as chemical or medical abortion. The advantages of such an abortion are that neither the procedure is invasive nor doe sit require any medical instruments or anesthesia. Moreover, drug-induced abortions can be carried out in any clinic unlike the surgical abortions which can be carried out only in a well-equipped operation room.
MIFEPRISTONE & CHEMICAL ABORTIONS
If chemical abortion is chosen as an alternative to surgical abortions in the first seven pregnancy weeks, then many doctors prescribe Mifepristone or RU-486 to the patients to induce abortions. Nonetheless, chemical abortions cannot be possible if the pregnancy has entered the seventh week. On the other hand, surgical abortions can be done faster. They are completed in two visits to the hospital and do not pose problems in future pregnancies.
WHEN DOES MISCARRIAGE TAKE PLACE?
Most of the miscarriages take place during the first three weeks of pregnancy. A few of the miscarriages also happen between the fourth to 12th weeks of pregnancies. Medical researches have ascertained that miscarriages account 15 per cent of approximately 15 per cent of all pregnancies. Studies have found that one-fourth of all pregnancies tend to abort automatically.
NATURAL TENDENCY TO MISCARRY
Some women have a natural tendency to miscarry. Such dysfunctions need urgent gynecological attention.
BEWARE OF REPEATED MISCARRIAGES
Repeated miscarriages jeopardize the chances or probabilities of future pregnancies transforming into successful childbirth instances.
MISCARRIAGE SYMPTOMS
The expectant mother’s kin must immediately consult the gynecologist if she complains of heavy bleeding from the vagina or suffers acute abdominal cramping. It has been found that intense vaginal bleeding is the most commonly complained symptom of threatened miscarriage. It can also be accompanied by sporadic excruciating pain.
IS VAGINAL BLEEDING DANGEROUS?
Not necessarily! One out of every four pregnant women has vaginal bleeding. But 50 per cent of them carry their pregnancies to the full term.
CAUSES OF MISCARRIAGE
Miscarriages cannot happen for only one or just a set of interrelated factors. It can happen due to many reasons.
However, 50 per cent of the miscarriages have been attributed to either or both the unnatural development of the placental issue or of the embryo. These abnormalities can be due to three main reasons. They can happen due to the faulty sperm or egg cells (germ cells).
Another cause may be because of defective budding of the fertilized egg. Besides, other maternal problems can also lead to miscarriages. The primary ones are psychological shocks including acute trauma or/and anxiety, diabetes and other systemic diseases like those of the kidney (nephritis). Premature expulsion of the fetus can take place also due to malfunctions of the uterine tract or portions besides tumors.
WHAT HAPPENS IN MISCARRIAGE?
When miscarriages happen, any of the following may happen: There may be a missed abortion. In such a state, the dead embryo can remain in the uterus for months on end. Some miscarriages may expel the entire or a part of the fetus. More often than not, gynecologists go for removal of the residual placental or embryonic tissue through surgeries. Such a procedure obviates the chances of uterine lining infection or its infection.
MISCARRIAGE TREATMENT
The generally prescribed treatment to avert threatened miscarriages is bed rest. In cases of repeated miscarriages, total bed rest for the entire pregnancy term becomes indispensable. Often, hormone and vitamin therapy is also suggested. In extreme cases, the patient may even have to undergo surgeries to correct the uterine abnormalities.
SEX HORMONE/ SYNTHETIC ESTROGEN
Sex hormone or synthetic estrogen is also known as DES or Diethylstilbestrol. Produced in 1938, it was widely used before 1970 in the USA to check miscarriages. But in 1970, researchers found that sex hormone taken by women before their 18th weeks of pregnancies had serious effects on their fetuses. It was discovered that particularly the female fetuses were prone to develop vaginal cancer. However, DES is still used widely to treat some cancer forms in both the sexes and also to correct some gynecological malfunctions.
What Are Gallstones Made Of?
Wednesday, December 29th, 2010A gallstone is a solid crystallized deposit that forms in the gallbladder. The function of the gallbladder is to store bile salts that are used to digest fatty foods. Gallstones can migrate to other parts of the digestive tract and cause severe pain with life threatening complications. Not all gallstones are the same. They vary in size (as small as a grain of salt or as large as a walnut) and chemical structure. Most gallstones are composed of excess cholesterol, however others are composed mainly of calcium and a yellowish waste product called bilirubin.
Gallstones usually develop in adults 20 to 50 and are the fifth leading cause of hospitalization for adults in the U.S. The risk of developing gallstones increases with age. Women, especially in the younger age groups, are much more likely to develop gallstones than men in similar age groups. This disparity evens out in older groups so that the numbers are more or less equal. Gallstones tend to run in families and can sometimes be linked to high levels of estrogen or cholesterol. Interestingly, Native Americans develop gallstones more often than any other segment of the population.
Cholecystitis is a condition where the gallbladder becomes inflamed. It occurs when a stone moves from the gallbladder into the cystic duct, a tube that connects the gallbladder to the bile duct. Cholecystitis is painful and is responsible for 10-25% of gallbladder surgery. Cholesterolosis is characterized by deposits of cholesterol crystals in the walls of the gallbladder. This condition can be caused elevated cholesterol or by deficiency of bile salts and is usually treated surgically with good success rates.
Pregnancy or birth control pills can affect the activity of the gallbladder and increase the risk of gallstones. Other factors that increase risk are: diabetes, pancreatitis, celiac disease, obesity, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption and a high fat diet. Gallbladder attacks commonly erupt in the middle of the night, especially after a large, rich, fatty meal. The pain can be so sharp that it literally wakes the afflicted person up. The pain of a gallbladder attack begins in the stomach area and eventually extends to the chest and back.
A gastroenterologist is most qualified to diagnose gallstones and come up with the best treatment options. During the physical exam the doctor will examine the patient for signs of jaundice and abdominal pain or swelling. Blood tests are used to try and detect evidence of bile duct obstruction and to exclude other possible illnesses or conditions such as stomach ulcers and appendicitis.
